Guide to Essential Oil Rollers

essential-oil-rollers

Rollers are a convenient way to have your most-used and most loved oil blends handy! They are also easy to make and super fun to have on hand as there are endless options for fun and beautiful roller bottles and roller labels!

In this blog post, I’m sharing how to make a roller and all of our most-loved and most-used recipes.

Another reason you’d want to make a roller is if you have younger kiddos or you want to dilute the oils you are using. Diluting your oils is simply adding a fatty oil like fractioned (or liquid) coconut oil to them to slow the absorption of the essential oil into your skin and minimize redness or irritation from what is considered the “hot” oils.

Lots of oils do not need to be diluted.

Pro Tip!

Peel back the label on your Young Living oils to read the recommended use for that specific oil! If they recommend you dilute, it will say that! If it’s says to apply the oil directly it means there is no need for dilution, however you still may want to dilute to make your oils go further!

Kid’s Roller Blends

Always dilute when applying oils on the little ones. (See chart below!) Applying oils on the feet to infants and children is a good place to start, slowly increasing to other areas on the body so there’s less of a chance of them touching and rubbing in their eyes! As they start to get older you can explain to them that they shouldn’t rub their eyes after touching an oil or the body part you just rollers an oil

on to. For children under 2, below the neck, on feet or down their spine seem to be best!

**All recipes are for 10ml roller bottles. Add the essential oils first, then fill up the rest of the bottle with your carrier oil of choice. We love fractionated coconut oil, argan, grapeseed, or even olive oil.

Don’t have an essential oil listed? Leave it out! Did a drop or two extra get into the bottle? Totally fine! Got a different idea? Try it! Want to add more oils? Yeah girl, do it! This is not a perfect science. Play around. Experiment. Have fun!!

Quick Guide to Carrier Oils

We like to keep a dropper bottle filled with carrier oil nearby for quick dilution and roller making!

Coconut oil  |  Very nourishing to the skin.  Can be purchased in a fractionated, liquid version as well.

Young Living’s V6  |  The perfect blend of coconut, sesame, grape, sweet almond, wheat germ, sunflower, + olive oils Very lavish, rich, and moisturizing!

Almond  |  nourishing + soothing to the skin

Grapeseed  |  has an astringent-like quality

Jojoba  |  this is a wax, and great for the scalp!  Very softening on the skin.  Typically used in small amounts with other carrier oils

Rose Hip  |  very healing + regenerative.  best used in small amounts with other carrier oils.

Olive  |  very nourishing, with a strong smell.  Most everyone has olive oil in their pantry, so this is great in a pinch! This is especially important when using oils on the babes.

Pro-Tip

You can pop a roller fitment on any oils that do not need to be diluted! The Kidscents oil line is pre-diluted for kids ages two and up and it’s super easy to use the pre-made rollers at YL or add a roller fitment to any of their oils!

Conclusion

Essential oils are highly concentrated and evaporate quickly.  When blending them with a carrier oil, it helps disperse them on the skin for a more even application.  Diluting with a carrier oil does not decrease the effectiveness.  It does help them to absorb more slowly into the body.

It’s handy to keep roller bottles in your purse, diaper bag and throughout your home so you have easy access to your most-loved and most used blends!

We love the convenience of having natural options at our finger tips!

If you aren’t a DIYer or find it hard to sit down and make things from scratch, Young Living has a whole line of pre-made rollers, including the Kidscents line especially for kids ages 2 and up!
