Alissa Vita, in the book Woman Code says that Estrogen Dominance is a hormonal imbalance where “signs include common symptoms like PMS, hormonal acne, ovarian cysts, fibroids as well as conditions like PCOS and Endometriosis. Woah!!! I had no idea these were symptoms of a hormonal imbalance!!”
Here’s a little chart for you on what hormonal balance should look like though out the month. Take not particularly with the hormones Estrogen and Progesterone.
What is estrogen dominance?
“Estrogen dominance happens in the body when there is estrogen overload or too much estrogen in relation to progesterone. This happens as the result of the foods we eat, the products we use, stress, poor sleep, and other environmental factors. It can be very hard to completely avoid estrogen excess, because we are surrounded by endocrine disruptors – in everything from our furniture to our nail polish.
When your body’s elimination system is working at a subpar level – the result of a lack of micronutrients, a disrupted microbiome, and inability to deal with an unnatural level of toxins – it cannot process and eliminate this excess estrogen efficiently.
A body nourished with nutrient dense and hormonally-supportive foods has a better chance of coping with and managing the synthetic estrogens we’re surrounded by, but many of us are not eating in a way that supports and bolsters our elimination system. This leads to a toxic build up and hormonal soup swimming around your body – throwing your delicate hormonal balance out of whack and triggering symptoms.
The other side of this coin here is progesterone deficiency – if you have too much estrogen in your bloodstream, your progesterone levels will be low in comparison.”
Zeno-estrogens, or chemicals literally bombarding our personal care and cleaning products (with the main culprit being synthetic fragrance and second in line transferring these zeno-estrogens is plastic!) our products like face wash, shampoos, soaps and even laundry detergent are clogging our cells and wrecking havock on our bodies ability to process naturally our hormones like estrogen and progesterone !!!
So as you can see from the chart a balanced hormonal system is one rich in estrogen for the first 14 days and progesterone the final 14 days. What is so interesting is that these ladies actually work together! One of Progesterones jobs is to eliminate estrogen not needed any more at the end of the month!
There are many reasons our hormones could be disrupted, as mentioned above, one of them is lifestyle and the chemicals found in our products.
When we apply products like lotions, creams, shampoos, conditioners, deodorant, tooth paste and shower gel (to name a few) to our bodies, the chemicals found in them penetrate our skin and “dirty up” our cells and disrupt our natural body systems including the natural process of hormonal balance!
One of the most toxic chemicals we can put on our bodies is artificial fragrance, which is ANY kind of non-natural scent. Artificial Fragrance is the main reason even “healthy” options such as Mrs Meyers cleaners and soaps are rated a 9/10 in the think dirty app!
